Recommendations for Fasting

Fasting serves to reduce and release toxins from the body and the more misuse of your body, as well as abuse of drugs and alcohol and exposure to pollutants you have suffered, the longer it will take to clean out your system. A person who has a great deal of toxins build up will find fasting a much more intense experience than a person who has very little toxins. It is wise to always start slow and allow your body to detoxify itself slowly. You need to give your overworked organs the opportunity to get used to the change. While fasting is healthy, you do not want to overload your system and cause it any unwanted stress. A smart suggestion is to go on short fasts like a day fast or a weekend fast ands do this frequently before working up to longer fasts. Keep in mind that are trying to rid yourself of harmful toxins that have accumulated in your tissues and you are also aiming to get your body back to a state of excellent health.

To encourage the cleansing of the colon both before and after you participate in a fast, make sure that you take in as much fiber as you possibly can. Bran is an excellent source of fiber and in particular, oat bran is a good choice of fiber.

Never chew gum while you are in the middle of a fast. The reason for this is that the process of digestion actually starts with the action of chewing and it is chewing that encourages the body to secrete enzymes that are released into the gastrointestinal tract. If chewing begins but there is not food present in the stomach for the enzymes to get busy digesting then stomach discomfort could result.

During a fast do not disrupt your normal lifestyle too much. For example do not give up exercise during a fast but go in for moderate forms of exercise as opposed to strenuous forms. Leave the team sports for after your fast.

Always get plenty of rest while you are on a fast because your body is liable to be more fatigued because of the transition it is going through. If you find that you are overtired or are not sleeping well at night then take naps during the day so you do not become too drained.

Be aware that the release of toxins can sometimes come with some undesirable side effects, which might include a coated tongue and an unpleasant taste in the mouth. One way to relieve this is to rinse the mouth out with fresh lemon juice. Other side effects that are not pleasant include body odor, dry and scaly skin, skin eruptions, fatigue, irritability, dizziness, anxiety and a sense of confusion. Other symptoms or side effects include coughing, nauseas, diarrhea, dark, bad smelling stools, dark urine, body aches, bronchial and sinus mucus discharge, insomnia, and/or problems with sight and hearing. If you experience any of these symptoms do not be alarmed and be aware that they are not serious and they will pass. As well, as your body becomes more used to the process of fasting, you will experience less and less of these potential problems.

I hope this natural healing article was helpful to you, no matter how much... or how little it had to do with natural healing for gerd.
